Enter these enchanted woods,
You who dare.
If you don't know where you came from how can you know where yer going?
Heading forward but not in a straight lineBranched destination just like a grapevineOur unique choices are kept us definedSome drinks water, and some drinks wine In a race for quality there's no finishing lineThose who walk a solid line and not quack Will get there faster when they don’t look backWe cut more distance using daylight trackBut we need light when it’s dark and blackHave a clear vision and be your own guideKeep your eyes open and don’t be a blindIt’s not too soon to know what's up aheadAnd it’s not too late to change your mind
I once heard an older gentleman say, "You can't plow a straight furrow if you're always looking back." Those who have farming experience -- or just a little garden plot like me, know just how true this is! It wasn't until years later that I realized the origin of this statement. The Bible. Luke 9:62 says, "Jesus replied, 'No one who puts his hand to the plow and looks back is fit for service in the kingdom of God.'" I agree with your literal statement that no one knows where they are going (and most of the time I'm very thankful for that because I couldn't handle knowing the future!) but I've found that it really doesn't matter where we go as long as we are following God.
